Has anyone heard of what happened to this guy called Ramar Pillai. This guy claimed to have invented the 'herbal' petrol. He apparently demonstrated that he could convert water and a concoction of herbs and boiling water into petrol. He was then supposedly harassed by all oil companies. Then scientists from IIT, Madras proved he was a bogus. To refresh your memories of what then, here is a glimpse from history.
Today we are talking of bio fuels and bio-diesels from Jatropha plantations. What's the difference? Taking a long shot, could he have accidentally found jatropha like herbs? He was apparently selling this herbal petrol stuff near his village for a while. Hmmm .. food for thought!

Ramar Pillai was a con artist dude. The stirrer he used to create his magic potion was hollow and filled with petrol! The scientists found out, when the mass of the substance suddenly increased from nowhere!
Hey anonymous ...
Think practically , how can anybody sell pwetrol for lesser so blatantly
Second .. isnt it an easier way out for him to say he is a fraud rather than prove his theory wrong
Thirdly He is still selling it in Chennai under the name Jerosene
:)
Same thougts...
He could'nt distilled petrol in a clandestin lab and produced a pure hydrocarbure, better than diesel.
I guess too he found out, by chance, the jatropha 5 years before everyone. And especially before the fuel crisis, for his misfortune.
I hope he is getting well.
I seriously think the petrol loby might have done some "gol mal" .... The entire economy of US is depends on Oil ...If this is a sucessful experiment the Doller value will fall in to ground in no time ... Need to serch him ... :)
Petrol lobby is the most powerful in the world. The modern wars are actually coz of the control on petrol. there is a notion that 30 years before scientists invented water as fuel. anyways, i am posting this as i read some news in TOI , that scottish scientists found byproducts of whisky which can be powered for cars. where is pillai?
This can't get any better, he is in Massachusetts biotechnology company I believe
